Choice of Moment

Choice of Moment, Image, Word and Flow- pick one and describe what it is and what are the goals.
From Making Comics

Choice of moment is all about the decisions that you make as an artist/writer for your your story. The chioce of moment allows you to construct the story in a linear fashion by deciding which moment to keep in and which to cut. The example McCloud used (I believe) which interested me was a scene from an arial view of two people and then having the next panel be a different setting having someone on top of a building looking down at the people in panel 1. This is a great device because immediately it set the mood- people were being watched discreetly from above, the perspective- from the binoculars of the voyeur, the protagonists- the people in the first panel and set up the story. Using just two specific moments all of these many things were communicated. This brings to mind another element of choosing the mood- being selective about what you include in your comic. You don't need every single element of a scene to communicate the message to the viewer. For example, McCloud did not show all three people in the scene at the same time, he showed select moments of the scene to evoke all of the things I listed above. The choice of moment also effects the pace of your storytelling. You can show every single thing that a character is doing between several frames to show how exhautive a moment or a process is, conversely, you can show one thing that a character does within a set of frames to imply that it was done quickly. Choosing a moment allows you to guide the readers attention to the select detais and story telling elements that you decide on.
